Let us give praise and honour to our Lord as we head into Transfiguration Sunday.

This week our passage for reflection is:

“Then Jesus came over and touched them. “Get up,” He said. “Do not be afraid.” And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Do not tell anyone about this vision until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.” – Matthew 17:1-13

  • Minister Update, February 2026

Welcome to February! It seems that this month is often filled with reminders that time moves so quickly. In the times and seasons of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, and the global Christian Church, we mark our time annually through events in Christ’s life.

February begins with the conclusion of the season of epiphany, which is a time of light and joy.  We celebrate the light of God who incarnated as a baby, and watch as the child grows into a man.

As February continues, we remember the transfiguration of Christ on February 15, and then transition into the season of Lent on Ash Wednesday. This year we will mark that progression with the imposition of ashes on February 18. And we will continue the tradition established last year by gathering as a community every Wednesday in Lent over the lunch hour to pray together in repentance and silence as one body in Christ.

During Lent, we will also walk in memory towards the cross with Christ knowing that from dust we came, and to dust we will return, while simultaneously remembering the glorious blessing of our inheritance of the kingdom of God as children of God.  Lent is a season for reflection.

February will see Bible studies continue, the winter orchestra performance, and various activities and events to bring us together on our walk with Christ. The Session elders continue to work with Knox on the amalgamation plan, and a shared service is planned for February 8 at St Giles. Discernment will continue with the Presbytery of Calgary-Macleod regarding the future of shared ministry with CKPC.   And there are a number of requests from the wider community to share our space that are being considered by the session of St Giles.  It is a time ripe for the wisdom of the Spirit as we pray for clarity and unity in all endeavours.

Please continue to pray as the body of the church, and faithfully follow the path of Christ for a united church. Please reach out to me directly at any time for support, with questions,or to share thoughts on your heart. Please continue to pray and discern and act upon your personal calling.  And may “the favour of the Lord our God rest upon us, and establish for us the work of our hands.” (Psalm 90:17)

    Blessings,

    Rev. Chandra Mannix
