Good morning!

Waking up to a beautiful morning reminds me of the fresh start each day brings. I find peace in starting my day with a sincere, simple prayer, pouring out my thoughts and gratitude to God. This genuine connection allows me to face the day with hope and positivity, making each moment feel more meaningful. How about you? How did you start your day today?

THANK YOU to the Siddal family for their kind donation of a patio table and chairs and a lovely wooden bench. Great additions to the church’s back garden. Please come and enjoy them any day of the week! We’d also want to thank Lacy for guiding an enthusiastic group of 16 aspiring artists through a fun evening of exploring our creativity of water colour paint; even the charcuterie board was a work of art! And, of course a big thank you to Susan Carmichael for tirelessly leading and managing all the church’s summer programs. You are a true blessing to our community.

Garage Sale – Friday Sept. 6th & Saturday Sept. 7thThere has been some interest in holding this type of fundraiser. Keeping in mind the workload of previous garage sales, for this one, we are requesting that if you would like to donate items, that you also donate your time by displaying, pricing and selling your items on the sale days, with all proceeds going toward repairs of the St. Giles stained-glass windows.  If for whatever reason you are unable to make that commitment, feel free to arrange for someone to take on that role for you. Hopefully this will distribute the workload into manageable bites. Start sorting and pricing your items! The set up will be Friday evening after 7PM. *Please book your table/tables through the church office (403-289-6862) by Wednesday September 4th. Sale time will be Saturday from 9AM to 3PM. Bring your friends and support St. Giles.

ESL – Begins Tuesday September 3 at 12:30 PM: Join us in the CKPC library to develop your conversational English skills.  Expand your vocabulary while improving pronunciation engaging in topics around daily life, faith, history and travel.  And classes are free!!

Bible Study –every Thursday Starting September 5: The Book of Hebrews offers encouragement in our faith in the face of challenges.  Join Rev. Chandra at 5:30 pm on Thursdays in the St. Giles library to delve deeper into scripture and its application to your life in Christ.

Faith Exploration – Thursday starting September 5: Do you have questions about scripture or Christian beliefs and how they apply in our daily lives? Gather to discuss various topics, including the hard ones, that will help us understand better our walk through this world. We invite you to come and share your thoughts every Thursday at 7PM beginning September 5 at St. Giles Library.

Bible Study with Denis Mascardelli, every Wednesday starting September 11:
Our Wednesday morning Bible Study, led by Denis Mascardelli, will begin again on September 11th.  This year we will be examining Paul’s two letters to the Thessalonian church, sometimes referred to as the eschatological letters of Paul, though there is much besides eschatology (the doctrine of last things). No homework is required, just bring a Bible and participate in the discussions as much or as little as you are comfortable with.

September 30 Free Presbytery Workshop at St. Andrews with the 2024 General Assembly Moderator: “Narrative of Hopes” for renewal, transformation and vitality. For more details, please check the bulletin in the narthex.

Crib Night: Crib night, scheduled for 1st Friday, September 6, is postponed to support our garage sale. We will resume on the 1st Friday in October.

AFTERNOON SERVICES: For those who are unable to attend morning services, there is an afternoon service at 1:30PM every Sunday at CKPC led by Rev. Mark Tremblay while Rev. Chandra is away. Everyone is encouraged to come!

August 25, 14th Sunday after Pentecost: Today we are led in worship by Malcolm Edwards, our guest organist and pianist, and Rev. Bruce Clendenin, our guest preacher while Chandra is on holidays. This week’s Bible verses are from Psalm 139:1-18 and Matthew 6:5-14. These passages emphasize God’s desire for an intimate relationship with each and everyone of us through intimate and humble prayer—that He is there and knows us completely.

WEEKLY QUOTE:
“We can hear the arts ‘speak afresh’ Christianity’s ancient texts in physical, embodied ways. In this way, the arts can also speak and connect us to the divine when we are too weary or simply have no words to offer. One parish member said, “I think art is a refined form of prayer.”
I learned that congregations could craft beauty through the arts, faithfully employing skills and gifts that opened the way toward helping them understand God beyond words. Through the arts, human beings embody God by imitating God’s creative life – shaping the clay of their experience with voices and hands.”
Diana Butler Bass (2006. Pg. 211 and 214) – Christianity For the Rest of Us

SCRIPTURE PASSAGE FOR REFLECTION:
I love the Lord, who has heard my voice and supplications. Because God inclined an ear to me, therefore I will call on the Lord as long as I live.                                                                                                                                                      Psalm 116:1-2
